Boynton Canyon Trail is a 6-mile (round trip) easy-moderate hike. The first part of the trail is open desert and goes along the border of Enchantment Resort, through Manzanitas and includes majestic canyon views. Later, the trail continues into a deciduous forest-- a welcome respite from the hot Arizona sun. Soon, the surroundings become mostly evergreen and densely wooded as you climb through a rocky area that is very reminiscent of Pacific Northwestern forests. The trail ends in a moderate climb to an overlook in a large box canyon.
This trail is a great way to experience the diversity of Arizona microclimates (as well as the mysterious Vortexes too!), all in one moderate hike.
Bring plenty of water and a camera! Lots of beautiful flora along the way, and usually some fauna too!
( The parking lot does require a fee, which is currently $5 )
(The duration of the hike really does depend on how often we stop and the speed we go... 4 hours is just a rough estimate)
