Constructed in 1839, Cockspur Island Light served as a daymarker to the South Channel of the Savannah River. Jetties surround the lighthouse making the shape of a ships bow in efforts to protect the structure from damaging waves. Kayak out to this historic lighthouse for some amazing views of Tybee and the surrounding area.
Equipment Provided: Kayak, Paddle, Life Jacket, Skirt, and Leash
TOUR: Everyone will meet at the boat ramp directly across the street from Ft. Pulaski for gear check-out and pre-trip briefing. We’ll depart and kayak down Lazaretto Creek to the Cockspur lighthouse. Adventure around the shallow waters inside the jetties that protect this historic lighthouse. After exploring around the lighthouse, we’ll begin our paddle back through Lazaretto Creek to the boat ramp.
**The National Park Service has closed Cockspur Light for restoration in 2016 so travelers will not be allowed onto the island or inside the lighthouse. This trip will get you as close to the lighthouse as you're allowed.**
