After college, Heath and his wife Alyssa both started off working conventional office jobs. However, that lifestyle was so boring they didn’t last a year before they knew sitting in an office all day for the next forty years wasn’t going to work. They both love to travel, but when you’re 25, it isn’t always easy or affordable to see the world.Together they hatched a plan to quit their jobs, buy an old RV off Craigslist, and cross off a major bucket list item: traveling to all fifty states. Four days after their wedding, they hopped into their 1994 Coachman Leprechaun and headed west. They spent the next seven months on a cross-country road trip that spanned across 48 states. As they traveled, they loved their new lifestyle so but didn’t want their full-time travel lifestyle to end after they visited all fifty states; they wanted to find a way to keep traveling indefinitely. So, they started finding dozens of creative ways to make money during their travels: sponsorships, books, consulting, film work, podcasting, affiliate marketing, blogging, and more.On this episode, we talk to Heath about how they got started traveling in the RV, how they financially supported themselves during their travels (including Heath working a job in every US State) and advice they would give to others on how they can travel on a budget.
